For over 76 years the GVKC has made its home in the Rochester, New York area. The GVKC is a member club of the American Kennel Club, and is comprised of people like yourself, who are interested in all breeds of purebred dogs. The purpose of the GVKC is to further the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs; to protect and advance the interests of all breeds of dogs and encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and performance events; to conduct sanctioned matches, dog shows, and performance events under the rules of the American Kennel Club; and to provide educational programs and information to the general public. Meetings of the Genesee Valley Kennel Club are held the second Monday of each month (no meeting in August). Guests are always welcome! Usually, a program is scheduled for each meeting on a topic of interest from a variety of dog-related subjects. Programs may include speakers, films or demonstrations. The programs cover just about everything of interest to dog enthusiasts. At our meetings, we are also informed of and discuss proposals and changes sponsored by the American Kennel Club. A refreshment time is usually held, and provides a great way to meet other "dog people" experienced in showing and breeding. GVKC members are always willing to share their interest and expertise in dogs, and welcome fellow enthusiasts. more info The GVKC is an active organization. The GVKC holds two AKC All-Breed Dog Shows and Obedience Trials in July of each year, and an annual sanctioned Match Show. The GVKC also holds health clinics, publishes a Breeders Guide, and provides an informational phone line. We have a variety of committees all working towards dog-related activities. GVKC is now offering a first aid class for dogs. GVKC FALL MATCH 2008 AKC has approved our event. Check the Dog Events Page for more details. We will also be conducting a microchip clinic at the 2008 Fall Match. Come meet our members. Our monthly membership meetings are open to the public. Membership in the club is open to anyone interested in promoting the sport of purebred dogs (members are not only breeders). See our Calendar page for more information on time and place. AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Certification GVKC is promoting responsible dog ownership for purebred dogs by offering AKC CGC classes and testing. We would like to schedule a class, but need at least 6 participants. If you are interested, please contact Pattie Hinton. For more information about CGC and what is involved in earning this certification, click here. Purebred Puppy Socialization Classes Socialization is an important part of raising a new puppy. GVKC is now offering puppy socialization and basic training classes for 3-6 month old purebred puppies. The classes will be held on Thursday night at the Lincoln Firehall (same location as our show handling classes). If you have a new purebred puppy and would be interested in more information and registration for this class, contact Kris Fletcher. 4 weeks $30.00.
